Ongar's roads are newer and wider than most of Dublin 15, which makes the first few lessons kinder: clear markings, sensible sightlines, roundabouts that were designed rather than inherited. Learners here usually get moving quickly.
The catch is that the test is not sat in Ongar. It is sat at Mulhuddart, on older, busier roads with more going on at every junction. So lessons from Ongar deliberately leave the village early — the comfortable roads are for learning the car, and the rest of Dublin 15 is for learning to drive.
Mulhuddart is the test centre for Ongar learners, and pre-test lessons run the routes out of it. The point of that is simple: by the time you have a date, the roundabouts, lane choices and speed limits on those roads should already be familiar.
A mock test on the same roads — silent, marked afterwards — tells you honestly whether you are ready or whether to move the date.
